The Florida Bar International Law Section Spotlights Matthew Akiba
I’m grateful to share that The Florida Bar International Law Section (ILS) recently featured me on their LinkedIn page. As someone building a boutique practice at the intersection of art, fashion, luxury, the creator economy, and cross-border business, this spotlight means a lot to me.

Why This Recognition Matters
1. It validates the niche I’m building.
Akiba Law was designed differently on purpose. Instead of traditional practice areas, I designed “Law Labs” focused on Art Law, Fashion Law, Luxury Law, Creator Economy Law, and Business Law — because my clients live in niche spaces and deserve niche support. One of the firm’s values is “Always Learning, Always Contributing” and being a member of the ILS supports both of those twin goals.
2. It underscores the global nature of my practice.
The ILS is a hub for attorneys working across borders, jurisdictions, and industries. Art, luxury, branding, business, and creator-economy law are global by nature. Whether it’s provenance, authenticity, IP protections, or international transactions, the issues my clients face rarely stop at state or national lines. As I continue to live by my value of “always learning,” the ILS is a perfect space for me to learn from the experienced lawyers comprising its membership.
3. It reflects the path that shaped me.
I’ve always straddled different worlds — multicultural roots (Moroccan and Cuban), entrepreneurial parents, art-market experience as the head of cataloguing for a leading South Florida auction house, and years practicing at both boutique litigation and Am Law firms. Those experiences taught me how global the legal industry really is, especially when practicing in Miami.
Founder of Akiba Law PLLC, Matthew specializes in the legal needs of the art, fashion, luxury, and content creation sectors with a focus on brand protection. His journey in international law began in law school and continues to shape his practice and mentorship within the ILS.
My involvement in the ILS has only sharpened that perspective: it connected me to attorneys outside my own firm, exposed me to cross-border practices, and surrounded me with mentors who have been generous with advice as I build my own law firm.

I’m grateful to The Florida Bar International Law Section for the feature and for the community they’ve built. My involvement with the ILS has helped me grow professionally, opened doors to collaboration, and connected me with mentors who’ve generously offered guidance as I launch and build my firm.
If you’re a gallery, artist, brand, creator, collector, or entrepreneur working across borders, I’d love to connect, collaborate, and continue building what’s next.
